Comcast is adding Tubiand their 10K title movie library to the X1 platform.
What is Tubi? Tubi is an ad-supported streaming network with 10K+ TV shows and movies sourced through 200+licensing partners. Think a free Netflix supported by ads.
Flashback #1: With $35M In Investments, TUBI TV Has Established Itself As A Leading Free Streaming Service
Tubi runs 8–12 video ads every 30 minutes or ≈5 minutes per hour.
TV ad loads are 16+ minutes/hour, so this would be ≈30% of the TV ad load.
If we assume a $25/CPM, then Tubi is generating $0.25/hour/user.
Our take: Subscription video on demand (SVOD) services like Netflix get all of the attention, but it is ad-supported video on demand (AVOD) that is poised for substantial growth as consumers discover a limit to the number of services that they are willing to pay for.
Who else? YouTube, Amazon, and Roku are all making a full-court process in the ad-supported video space.
Who is missing? Facebook just announced the shuttering of their connected-TV ad network.
