2) 2020 – $589M (↑ 25%)
Why this matters: Companies such as Facebook believe virtual reality is going to be a massive market. They are investing heavily to position themselves as the eventual winner.
Facebook spending on research and development (YoY growth) according to Macrotrends:
1) 2016 – $5.9B (↑ 23%)
2) 2017 – $7.8B (↑ 31%)
3) 2018 – $10.3B (↑ 32%)
4) 2019 – $13.6B (↑ 32%)
5) 2020 – $18.4B (↑ 36%)
Wow: Facebook has 10K people working on AR/VR, ≈ 20% of their workforce.
